TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE
April 11, 2012
Woman Killed In Fatality Crash on LA 3127

Around 6:20 PM yesterday evening, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a three vehicle crash on LA 3127 in St. Charles Parish where a woman was killed.

The investigation revealed that a 2005 Ford Focus, driven by Fellita Rosa-German (White/Female D.O.B. 3/7/1961) of the Dominican Republic, was traveling northbound on LA 3127 around the 5900 block. For unknown reasons the Focus crossed the center line and entered the southbound lane of LA 3127 striking a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Lonnie Chiasson (White/Male D.O.B. 12/17/1992). After the impact, the Silverado came to rest in the southbound lane of LA 3127. The Silverado was struck a second time by a 2007 Toyota 4Runnner, driven by Courtnie Heltz (White/Female D.O.B. 10/11/1978). Fellita Rosa-German, who was wearing her seatbelt, was pronounced dead on scene by the St. Charles Parish Coroner’s Office. Chiasson, who was wearing his seatbelt, was transported to East Jefferson Hospital with minor injuries. Heltz, who was wearing her seatbelt, was not injured in the crash.

Investigating Troopers report that alcohol impairment is unknown at this time, but fatigue may have been a contributor in the crash. Routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

When drivers feel tired or fatigued, they should find a safe place to pull over to rest or stretch before getting back on the road. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
