Marrero Man Killed in Crash in Jefferson Parish

Troop B – Last night, shortly after 9 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a fatal crash on LA 3134, just south of Destrehan Avenue. Preliminary investigation revealed that at 2001 Honda Civic, driven by Brice Minor (W/M, age 20) of Marrero, LA, was traveling north on LA 3134 in the left lane. For unknown reasons, Minor lost control of the vehicle and struck a light pole and tree in the median. Minor was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead on the scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

Impairment is unknown and toxicology results are pending an autopsy. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana law requires EVERY passenger inside a vehicle to be properly restrained, regardless of seating position. The primary function of a seatbelt is to prevent ejection and to spread the forces of a crash over a wider part of the body to reduce injuries and fatalities. Seatbelts keep occupants seated properly and allow for a quicker escape from fire or water following a crash. The forces of a crash on the body often prove too much to overcome without the proper use of a seat belt.
