Troop B - NEWS RELEASE Is Your Child Buckled Up Properly? Free Child Seat Installation Event On Saturday, December 1, 2012, from 12 PM – 3 PM, the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force, Louisiana State Police and the Interim LSU Public Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center will be hosting a free child safety seat inspection station. The inspection station will be at 3000 Williams Boulevard, Kenner, LA, no appointments necessary. This service is FREE to anyone who wishes to have their child restraints inspected and installed properly by certified child safety technicians. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children under the age of 14. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2009 approximately 1,300 children lost their lives in motor vehicle crashes and over 179,000 were injured. During the holiday season, there are more vehicles on the roads and families may travel hundreds of miles to visit loved ones. Louisiana State Law requires the driver of a motor vehicle to ensure that EVERY child under the age of thirteen years in a motor vehicle equipped with safety belts is properly secured, regardless of seating position in the vehicle. Many deaths and injuries can be prevented by properly using child safety seats. 96% of child safety seats are installed improperly. Please visit us on Saturday, December 1, 2012 and speak with a technician that will show the parent/caregiver how to properly install the child restraint and ensure that the child is in the appropriate age/weight child seat.
