Update: Stolthaven Facility Multiple Agency Partnership

Following the last week’s combined efforts of multiple agencies, the stabilization process of the Stolthaven Facility is being conducted. Public safety is our first and foremost priority and we will continue to work with our partners until the situation is rectified.

"As LSP HazMat Troopers continue mitigation operations at the Stolthaven Facility in Braithwaite, our priorities are public safety and returning residents to their homes as soon as it is safe to do so," said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent. "Federal, state, parish and company resources are dedicated to this effort. While we are encouraged that there has been no offsite impact to date during mitigation, as long as a potential hazard to the community exists, we must keep the evacuation order in place."

Hazardous Materials at Stolthaven Facility in Braithwaite

09/03/12: Troop B – The Louisiana State Police Hazardous Materials specialists are working in conjunction with the Department of Environmental Quality, United States Coast Guard, Stolthaven representatives, Louisiana National Guard and various remediation companies to assess the amount of various materials in the Stolthaven facility. Stolthaven does not have power and received significant damage as a result of Hurricane Isaac.

A half mile evacuation from the facility has been put in effect. The evacuation is for those citizens north and south of the facility along the levee. It does not impact Mississippi River traffic or those citizens on the westbank. There is no immediate threat to the public.

Several materials have been located and a plan to off load those materials is in effect. The materials are as follows:

      Methyl Acrelate - Flammable
      Octene - Flammable
      Waste Container Storage
      Styrene - Flammable
Formic Acid – Corrosive, Inhalation Hazard
      Monochlorobenzene - Flammable
