Troops A & B - NEWS RELEASE Louisiana State Police Participates in “Celebrate My Drive” – A Teen Driver Safety Event Motor vehicle crashes are the number one killer of Louisiana citizens. Louisiana was rated second in the nation for having the deadliest roads as cited by Reader’s Digest in 2010. In 2011, 667 people lost their lives in motor vehicle crashes in Louisiana and over 70,000 people were injured. Unfortunately, driver impairment was responsible for nearly half of the fatal crashes. Young drivers also attributed to these alarming numbers. Teens ages 15-20 were involved in more than 10,000 injury related motor vehicle crashes; of those crashes 94 drivers were killed. Louisiana State Police is committed to educating our citizens and teens about the dangers on the roads. Impaired driving, distractions and lack of seat belt use continue to be the causes of fatal and serious injury crashes. Louisiana State Police is participating in “Celebrate My Drive” on Saturday, September 15, 2012, which is hosted by State Farm. The event will be taking place in communities around the country and it will encourage teens to develop safe driving habits and promote good decision making skills. The event is free to the public and numerous community agencies will be giving educational information to parents and teens. Games, food and prizes will be given away also.
