Troop B - NEWS RELEASE Pedestrian Killed on US 90 Troop B – Last night, at approximately 8:30 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash that claimed the life of an Avondale man on US 90 east at Avondale Garden Road. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 GMC Envoy, driven by Donietha Luke (B/F, age 36) of Marrero, LA, was traveling east on US 90 in the right lane. A pedestrian, Isaac Casmere (B/M, age 62) of Avondale, LA, started to cross the roadway near Avondale Garden Road and was struck by the Envoy in the right lane. Casmere was pronounced dead on the scene. Luke submitted to a chemical test and no detectable alcohol was found in her system. Luke was properly restrained and speed is not considered as a factor. Toxicology results are pending an autopsy on Casmere. Troopers urge both motorists and pedestrians to remain vigilant while on area roadways and pay close attention to their surroundings. Distraction, whether behind the wheel or as a pedestrian, decreases awareness and reaction time possibly leading to life changing consequences. Louisiana State Law requires pedestrians to utilize sidewalks where accessible or walk along the left shoulder as far away from the roadway as possible.
