Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: November 9, 2010 Woman Arrested for Possession of Fraudulent Identification Troop B – This morning, shortly after 11:00 AM, Louisiana State Troopers assigned to the Bureau of Investigations Criminal Investigations Division responded to the Office of Motor Vehicles / Algiers Office after they received a complaint of an individual attempting to obtain a Louisiana Driver’s License with fraudulent documents. Detectives identified Carmen Torres (H/F, age 24) and found that she was in possession of a Puerto Rico driver’s license. The Puerto Rico license was verified through the Louisiana State Analytical and Fusion Exchange (LA-SAFE) as being fraudulent and Torres was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of Fraudulent Documents for Identification Purposes and Filing and Maintaining False Public Records at the Orleans Parish Central Lockup. LA-SAFE facilitates the collection, evaluation and dissemination of homeland security and crime related information that is derived from local, state and federal agencies in order to improve Louisiana’s ability to safeguard against terrorism, criminal activity and to ensure public safety. The Fusion concept is to centralize all points of information. LA-SAFE partners are able to research and access federal, state and local documents, bulletins, request information and receive safety updates. It is a tool that law enforcement continually uses in order to ensure safety statewide.
