Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: February 7, 2009 Single Vehicle Fatal Crash in St John Parish On Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 5:00 AM, Louisiana State Police, Troop B investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on U.S. 61 (Airline Hwy) near LA 54 in Garyville, LA. The crash involved a 2008 Chevrolet pick-up driven by Mr. William S. Cottle (W/M, 20yrs) of Troy Missouri. The Chevrolet pick-up was traveling northbound on U.S. 61, just west of LA 54. The pick-up then veered to the left for an unknown reason, entering the median and struck an embankment. The pick-up then became airborne and started to flip at which time Mr. Cottle was ejected. As a result of the crash, Mr. Cottle suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. Mr. Cottle was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Driver impairment is unknown at this time. ( Results pending a toxicology examination) Trooper K. Borcherding is continuing his investigation.
