Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: February 21, 2009 Mardi Gras Safety Tips While participating in Mardi Gras events the Louisiana State Police recommends the following tips to keep you, your family and property safe while enjoying the festivities. 1.) Personnel Safety: a.) Gain knowledge about the location that you are going to and get good directions. If visiting for Mardi Gras invest in a local map or consult with the reliable locals, hotel personnel or any State Trooper or Police Officer to get this information. b.) Avoid vacant areas, dark alleys, ECT... Travel in a group or stay with the crowd. There is safety in numbers. c.) Avoid flashing large sums of currency when in public. This could possibly catch the eye of criminals. d.) Carry pertinent information (I.D, credit cards, hotel room card keys) and valuables in your front pocket. This puts would be pickpockets at a disadvantage. Ladies, avoid carrying bulky purses and wearing expensive flashy jewelry. If possible, carry your pertinent information (I.D, credit cards, hotel room card keys) and valuables in your front pockets also. e.) Avoid excessive alcohol intake. Remember, the first thing alcohol effects, is your judgment. (Thus effecting all of the above and below) A highly intoxicated person is an easy target for a criminal.
