Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: March 19, 2009 Single Vehicle Fatal Crash on LA 18 in St. Charles Parish On Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 1:40 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on LA 18 westbound near River Park Drive. The crash involved a 2008 Chevrolet pick-up driven by Justo Cantu Diaz (Hisp./Male, 33yrs), of New Braunfels, Texas. The Chevrolet was traveling westbound on LA 18 at which time the vehicle traveled off the roadway to the right. The investigation revealed that the driver over corrected to the left, then to the right at which vehicle began to roll, ejecting the driver from the vehicle. Because of the crash, Mr. Diaz suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene. Speed is not suspected at this time. Mr. Diaz was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. It is unknown if driver impairment is a factor at this time. (Results pending a toxicology examination.) Trooper J. Rozigas is continuing her investigation.
