Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: March 21, 2009 Crossover Fatal Crash on LA 23 in West Pointe La Hache On Friday, March 20, 2009 shortly before 7:00 PM, a fatal crash claimed the lives of two people in Plaquemines Parish. The crash occurred on LA 23 (Belle Chasse Hwy) in West Pointe La Hache, near milepost 37.4 at 6:51 PM. The crash involved a 1998 Mitsubishi Galant, driven by Alieca S. Kewish (W/F, 48 yrs) of Springfield, LA and a 2004 Chevrolet pick-up, driven by Chad P. Lagrange (W/M, 36 yrs) of Arnaudville, LA. The Mitsubishi was traveling southbound on LA 23 in the right lane at which time the driver veered onto the right shoulder, then overcorrected to the left. The Mitsubishi then crossed the southbound lanes and the grassy median entering the northbound lanes of LA 23. Upon entering the northbound lanes of LA 23, the Mitsubishi entered the path of a Chevrolet pick-up, which was traveling northbound on LA 23 in the right lane. The Chevrolet pick-up then struck the passenger-side of the Mitsubishi. Because of the crash the driver of the Mitsubishi, Kewish and the front passenger, Gustave J. Roberts (W/M, 45 yrs) of Holden, LA suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead on the scene. The crash is still under investigation at this time. It is unknown if driver impairment is a factor (Results pending a toxicology examination.) Trooper T. Duncan is continuing his investigation.
