Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: January 4, 2009 A Single Vehicle Crash Claims the Life of an Unidentified Male On Sunday, January 4, 2009 shortly after midnight, Troop B investigated a single vehicle fatal crash in Braithwaite that claimed the life of an unidentified man. The crash occurred on LA 3137 just north of LA 39 in Braithwaite, on the east-bank of Plaquemines Parish. The crash involved a 2005 Mercedes passenger car operated by an unidentified African American male. The Mercedes was traveling southbound on LA 3137 when the driver lost control of his vehicle that subsequently crossed the centerline, ran off the roadway to the left and struck a tree. Upon impact, the Mercedes became engulfed in flames. The driver who was the only occupant of the vehicle suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. The identity of the driver is being withheld pending positive identification by the coroner’s office. Speed is suspected as a factor in the crash. It is unknown if driver impairment is a factor at this time. (Results pending a toxicology examination.) Trooper Arcana is continuing his investigation.
