Possible Kidnapping of Two-year old Boy (New Orleans)

New Orleans Police Department has received a report of the aggravated kidnapping of a two year old child which occurred on Friday (January 2, 2009) around 11:30 pm. The child was allegedly abducted at gunpoint from the child’s father while they were at the corner of Jackson Ave. and Carondelet St.

The two-year old African-American male child, Ja Shawn Powell, has black hair, brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt, blue jeans and black shoes. Ja Shawn is approximately 2.5 feet in height and weighs approximately 48 pounds.

The abductors were described as three black males, approximately 29 years of age, who were wearing black clothing and armed with AK 47’s. They were in a 2000-model, dark-colored Chevrolet Tahoe/ GMC Yukon with black tinted windows and shiny paint. There were no license plates on the vehicle. The vehicle was last seen traveling north on Jackson Ave. in New Orleans.
