TROOP A NEWS RELEASE December 21, 2014 Houston Carjacking Suspect Located and Arrested in Louisiana Port Allen – On December 21, 2014, Louisiana State Police Troopers from Troop A located and arrested an individual suspected of an aggravated robbery and carjacking in the Houston area. Troopers placed 23 year old Vernell L. Bazile of Houston under arrest after locating him in West Baton Rouge Parish. On the morning of December 21, Troopers learned that a vehicle which was reported stolen from the Houston area may have possibly been traveling eastbound on I-10 through Louisiana. Troopers also learned that the subject driving the vehicle was possibly involved in an armed carjacking in a shopping mall parking lot in Houston. At approximately 11:00 am Troopers located the vehicle (a 2004 Infiniti G35) traveling on I-10 eastbound near LA Hwy 415, and were able to stop the driver (Bazile) on LA Hwy 415. Troopers confirmed that the vehicle was the one reported stolen in the Houston carjacking, and they placed Bazile under arrest for LRS 14:69 – Illegal possession of stolen things and LRS 32:52 – No driver’s license. Bazile was transported to and booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish jail on the above listed charges. The Houston Police Department was contacted and they will continue their investigation into the carjacking now that Bazile has been placed into custody.
