Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: November 25, 2008 Single Vehicle Fatal Crash in St. Bernard On Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 12:24 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 46 (Florissant Highway) near Pisces Place in St. Bernard Parish. The crash involved a 2008 Dodge Ram Pick-up driven by Joseph B. Brechtel Jr. (W/M, 43 yrs) of Covington, LA. The Dodge was traveling eastbound on LA 46 near Pisces Place when the driver for an unknown reason veered to the right. The driver then over corrected to the left, traveling across the westbound lane striking a utility pole, coming to rest in a drainage ditch. During the crash, Mr. Brechtel was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. Mr. Brechtel was pronounced dead on the scene. Driver impairment is unknown at this time. (Results pending a toxicology examination.) Mr. Brechtel was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Trooper Charles is continuing his investigation. (NOTE: There were no passengers in the vehicle or witnesses to the crash.)
