Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: April 4, 2009 An Impaired Driver Causes a Fatal Crash in West Jefferson On Friday at 5:30 pm, State Police investigated a fatal crash involving an impaired driver. The crash occurred on April 3, 2009 at the intersection of U.S. 90-B westbound and Brown Avenue. The crash involved a 1999 Dodge Caravan driven by Donald Scioneaux (W/M, 37 yrs) of Monroe, LA , a 1990 Toyota Corolla driven by Rafael Rangel (Hisp/M, 27 yrs) of Destrehan, LA, a 2003 Nissan Exterra driven by David Grabert (W/M, 52 yrs) of Westwego and a fourth passenger vehicle. The Dodge was traveling westbound on U.S. 90-B in the center lane at which time it struck the rear of the Toyota which was stopped for the red light at the intersection of U.S. 90-B and Brown Ave, behind the Nissan and the fourth vehicle. After the Dodge made impact with the Toyota, the Toyota was forced into the rear of the Nissan, which was forced into the rear of the fourth passenger vehicle. As a result of the crash, the driver of the Toyota was transported to University Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The front passenger of the Toyota, Marie Guerrero and a two year who was restrained in a child restraint on the rear seat was transported to West Jefferson Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries. The driver of the Nissan complained of minor injuries, but refused medical attention. The driver of the fourth passenger vehicle suffered no injuries and had minor damage to his vehicle. The driver of the Dodge, Scioneaux was arrested and booked at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on the following charges: 1.) LRS 14:98 Driving While Intoxicated 2.) LRS 14:32 Vehicular Homicide 3.) LRS 14:39.1 Vehicular Negligent Injuring 4.) RS 32:58 Careless Operation of a Motor Vehicle 5.) RS 32:415 Driving with a Suspended Driver’s License 6.) RS 32:865 No Insurance. Trooper Julian is continuing his investigation.
