TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE

For Immediate Release

September 2, 2009
“Over the Limit – Under Arrest”

Troop B- This Labor Day weekend, Louisiana State Police will be aggressively patrolling for impaired drivers as part of a national DWI enforcement campaign called “Over the Limit – Under Arrest”.

In 2008, 449 people in Louisiana lost their lives in an impaired driver-related crash. Impaired driver-related crashes represented 49% of all 2008-highway deaths in Louisiana. During this Labor Day weekend, Louisiana State Troopers will be focusing their enforcement on impaired and aggressive drivers. State Police will also be collaborating with local police agencies while conducting DWI checkpoints, as well as utilizing state and federal funding to put additional Troopers on the highways. This increased effort is aimed at educating drivers and decreasing the number of drug and alcohol-related crashes on our highways throughout the holiday weekend.

The Louisiana State Police is also asking the public for their assistance. If anyone observes an aggressive or impaired driver on the roadway, they are encouraged to contact the Louisiana State Police at *577 (*LSP) This is a toll free cell phone call that puts the caller directly in contact with the State Police Troop within the area they are traveling.
