TROOP A NEWS RELEASE
December 30, 2014
Troopers Arrest Denham Springs Man for Seventh Offense DWI

Prairieville – On December 30, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A placed 46 year old Efremzimbalist Randle of Denham Springs under arrest for 7th offense DWI. The arrest came after Troopers and Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Deputies stopped Randle on LA Hwy 73 near I-10 in Ascension Parish.

Shortly before 2:00 am on December 30, a concerned motorist observed a vehicle traveling erratically on I-10 westbound west of LA Hwy 641. The motorist contacted Troop A, and a Trooper was sent to the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle. Troopers and Deputies located the vehicle (a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu) as it was exiting I-10 onto LA Hwy 73 and performed a traffic stop after the driver made an illegal U-turn.

Upon coming into contact with Randle, Troopers suspected that he was under the influence of alcohol. Randle performed poorly on standardized field sobriety testing and was placed under arrest for LRS 14:98 – Driving while intoxicated (7th offense). He was then transported to the Ascension Parish jail where he provided a proper breath sample which registered over the legal limit.

Randle was then booked into the Ascension Parish jail for DWI. He was also charged with Reckless operation, Possession of alcoholic beverages in motor vehicles, Obedience to police officers and traffic signs, Operating a vehicle while under suspension for certain prior offenses, and Ignition interlock device offense.

Troopers wish to remind motorists that impaired driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same. Troopers will continue to work closely with local law enforcement agencies to actively enforce Louisiana’s DWI laws, especially during a busy New Year’s Holiday season.

Motorists can report impaired drivers or unsafe roadway conditions by dialing *LSP (*577) from your cellular phone to reach the State Police Troop closest to them.
