Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: July 30, 2009 Fatal Crash in East Jefferson Claims the Life of an 86-year-old Man Troop B- On Wednesday just after 3:00 PM, Louisiana State Police investigated a fatal crash in East Jefferson that claimed the life of an 86-year-old Metairie man. The crash occurred on U.S. 61 (Airline Hwy) northbound at LA 3155 in Metairie, La. The crash involved a 1994 Chevrolet pick-up driven by Mr. Johnny E. Taylor (W/M, 86 yrs), of Metairie La. and a 1997 Ford Explorer driven by Blake E. Haydell (W/M, 27 yrs), of Kenner, La. The Ford was traveling northbound in the left turn lane on U.S 61 at its intersection with LA 3155. The Chevrolet was traveling northbound on LA 3155 making a left turn onto U.S. 61 northbound. As the Ford attempted to turn left onto LA 3155 from U.S. 61 it struck the driver side door of the Chevrolet causing moderate damage. As a result of the crash the driver of the Chevrolet, Taylor was transported to University Hospital where approximately one hour later he succumbed to internal injuries. The driver of the Ford, Haydell was not injured in the crash and refuse medical attention. Driver impairment is unknown at this time, but not suspected. (Results pending a toxicology examination.). State Police are continuing their investigation and is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call Troop B at 504.471.2775.
