Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: July 18, 2009 Fatal Crash Involving a Garbage Truck Troop B- On Saturday morning just before 10:30 am, State Police investigated a fatal crash on I-310 that claimed the life of a Luling woman. The crash occurred on I-310 northbound at milepost 7.3 on the top portion of the Luling Bridge. The crash involved a 2007 Mack garbage truck driven by Knollie Jones (B/M, 29 yrs) of Metairie, La and a 2001 Honda CRV driven by Misty Carroll (W/F, 38 yrs) of Luling, La. The Honda was traveling northbound on I-310 in the right lane at which time it struck the rear of the Mack garbage truck, which was disabled, in the right lane. The initial investigation revealed that the Honda struck the rear of the Mack truck with minimal braking. It was also learned that the Mack truck owned by Ramelli Waste LLC had run out of fuel prior to stopping in the right lane. The driver of the Honda, Carroll and her 6-year-old passenger were transported to St. Charles Hospital where Carroll was pronounced dead. The 6-year-old passenger was treated for minor injuries and released. None of the occupants in the Honda were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. The driver of the Mack garbage truck was not injured in the crash. Driver impairment is unknown at this time, but not suspected. (Result pending the results of the toxicology examinations). The crash is still under investigation and charges are pending.
