Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date July 11, 2009 47-Year-Old Harvey Man Loses His Life in a Crash on the Westbank Troop B- Saturday morning just after mid-night Louisiana State Police investigated a motor vehicle crash in West Jefferson in which a 47-year-old Harvey man lost his life. The crash occurred on LA 23 (Belle Chasse Hwy) and LA 428 (Behrman Hwy) at 12:08 am. The crash involved a 1994 Ford pick-up driven by John Anderson (W/M, 47 yrs) of Harvey, La. and a 1999 Nissan Altima driven by Michael Todd (B/M, 49 yrs) of Gretna, La. The Ford was stopped on LA 428 westbound at its intersection with LA 23. According to a witness, it appeared that the driver of the Ford took his foot off the brake pedal and coasted into southbound lanes of LA 23 and into the path of the Nissan. The Nissan then struck the right front side of the Ford with its front bumper. The driver of the Ford, Anderson was found unresponsive and was transported to Ochsner Medical Center of the West-bank where he was pronounced dead. The investigation revealed that Mr. Anderson had an extensive medical history of heart conditions. It is believed at this time that he had a heart attack while behind the wheel, causing his foot to slip off the brake pedal. The driver of the Nissan, Todd was not injured in the crash Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash and driver impairment is not suspected on either driver. Troop B is continuing its investigation.
