Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: June 7, 2009 Single Vehicle Fatal Crash Involving a Motorcycle Troop B- On Sunday, June 07, 2009 shortly after 11:30 AM, State Police investigated a fatal crash on LA 39 in Meraux, La. The crash occurred on LA 39 (Judge Perez) northbound at Edgar Drive. The crash involved a 2006 Suzuki GSX1300 motorcycle driven by Adam Eugene Jr. (B/M, 32 yrs) of Chalmette, La. The Suzuki was traveling northbound on LA 39 in the left lane at a high rate of speed. As the Suzuki entered the intersection of LA 39 and Edgar Drive, the driver lost control of the motorcycle and struck the raised curb. The Suzuki then entered the grassy median and struck a tree where the driver was ejected. As a result of the crash the driver, Eugene suffered fatal injuries and pronounced dead on the scene. A registration check performed on the motorcycle revealed that it had been reported stolen out of Lafayette, La. on September 9, 2007. Driver impairment is unknown at this time. (Results pending a toxicology examination). Speed is considered a factor in the crash and the driver, Eugene was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
