Fatal Crash Involving a Pedestrian on I-10

Troop B- This morning shortly after 4:30 AM, Louisiana State Police investigated a fatal crash on I-10 involving a pedestrian.

The crash occurred on I-10 eastbound near the Bonnabel Blvd exit in Metairie, La. The crash involved a 1997 Chevrolet pick-up driven by Daniel R. Poche (W/M, 30 yrs) and an Asian male pedestrian. The pedestrian was attempting to cross I-10 eastbound at which time he ran into the right center lane directly into the path of the Chevrolet pick-up traveling east on I-10 in the right center lane. The driver of the pick-up attempted to swerve to avoid striking the pedestrian but was unable to do so. After the impact with the pedestrian, the driver of the Chevrolet pulled onto the left shoulder of I-10 and notified the police at which time an unknown make white van traveling east on I-10 in the right center lane struck the pedestrian a second time while lying in the roadway. The unidentified van then continued eastbound on I-10 without stopping or reporting the incident.

The pedestrian whose name is being withheld pending proper notification suffered fatal injuries during the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the pick-up, Poche was not cited for any violations.

State Police are still looking for the driver of the white van. Anyone with information regarding the crash or the van is asked to contact Troop B at (504) 471-2775 or *LSP (*577).
