Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: May 24, 2009 Single Vehicle Fatal Crash Involving a Motorcycle On Saturday, May 24, 2009 at 7:14 PM Louisiana State Police, Troop B investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on LA 18 (River Rd) eastbound at Lauve Lane in Waggaman, La. The crash involved a Honda motorcycle operated by George Bennett (W/M, 57 yrs) of Waggaman. The motorcycle was traveling eastbound on LA 18 approaching a curve to the left at which time the operator ran off the roadway to the right at the beginning of the curve. The motorcycle then re-entered the roadway, crossed both lanes of LA 18, exited the roadway to the left and struck a utility pole The driver, Bennett suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene. Driver impairment is unknown at this time but is suspected. (Results pending a toxicology examination) Speed is considered a factor in the crash.
