Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: November 5, 2008 Fatal Crash Involving a 4-Wheeler On Wednesday, November 05, 2008 at 4:30 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on LA 23 (Belle Chasse Hwy South) at Ollie Drive, in Jesuit Bend. The crash involved a Yamaha ATV 4-wheeler operated by Tylar Rupp (W/M, 13 yrs), of Jesuit Bend and a 2003 Ford F-150 pick-up driven by Mr. Mark A. Franicevich (W/M, 72 yrs), of Buras, LA. The Yamaha 4-wheeler was traveling westbound from the Mississippi River levee with two other 4-wheelers. All of the 4-wheelers then proceeded to cross the southbound lanes of LA 23 in a single line directly in front of oncoming traffic. The first two 4-wheelers crossed the southbound lanes without incident. The third, the Yamaha 4-wheeler entered the path of the Ford pick-up, which was traveling in the left lane at which time impact occurred. After impact the 4-wheeler and its rider, Rupp were thrown to the right side of LA 23 southbound. Because of the crash, Tylar Rupp suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Ford, Franicevich was not injured in the crash. Mr. Franicevich was not fault in the crash and was released without citations. In addition, chemical testing confirmed that driver impairment was not a factor in the crash. Trooper T. Cancienne is continuing his investigation.
