Chemical Spill in Plaquemines Parish

On Monday, March 17th, 2008 at 9:20 AM an employee of Stolthaven New Orleans LLC observed a leak of a water treatment chemical (Fluorosilicic acid) from a storage tank located at the terminal in Braithwaite, LA. The terminal officials then notified the Louisiana State Police, Hazardous Materials unit of the leak. They further advised the Haz-Mat unit that the leak was contained and that there were no injuries. The Stolthaven terminal activated its emergency response plan and roadblocks were established as a precaution.

Upon their arrival Louisiana State Police, Hazardous Material and the LADEQ conducted air monitoring of the surrounding area at which time the situation was determined to be stable and the roadblocks were lifted. (No off site impacts were detected)

At the present time a team of local and state agencies, an independent emergency response company and the terminal are continuing to work to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
