TROOP A NEWS RELEASE October 28, 2014 Walker Woman Killed in Two Vehicle Livingston Parish Crash Walker – Shortly before 3:45 pm on October 28, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 1025 (Arnold Rd.) west of LA Hwy 447 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 31 year old Sylena N. McNeil of Walker. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as McNeil was driving a 1999 Saturn SC westbound on LA Hwy 1025. At the same time, a 16 year old juvenile was driving a 2000 Ford pickup truck eastbound on LA Hwy 1025. For unknown reasons the westbound Saturn left the roadway to the right. Upon doing so McNeil overcorrected, causing the Saturn to cross into the eastbound lane of travel. As a result the Ford pickup struck the Saturn on the passenger side. McNeil sustained serious injuries despite the fact that she was properly restrained. She was transported from the scene by Air-Med to Ochsner Medical Center in Baton Rouge where she succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. Driver impairment on the part of McNeil is unknown at this time, and a toxicology sample was taken from her and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The 16 year old juvenile sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Impairment on his part is not suspected, and he was properly restrained. Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving at all times. Never drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued, and always remain buckled up regardless of seating position. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road. Always obey all traffic control devices and be aware of your surroundings at all times. Contact Information: | |||
