| NEWS RELEASE LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DATE: April 10th, 2008 Troopers will be on Patrol for On-Lookers on I-10 over the Bonnet Carre Spillway On Friday, April 11th, 2008 the Army Corps of Engineers will open the Bonnet Carre Spillway water diversion gates for the first time in 11 years. In an effort to keep the motoring public safe Louisiana State Police, Troop B will be increasing patrols on I-10 over the spillway for on-lookers stopped or obstructing traffic either on the roadway or the shoulder. Anyone caught stopped or obstructing traffic for the sole purpose of observing the flowing water will be cited under Louisiana Revised Statue 32:296. The Louisiana State Police is asking the public and media for their assistance in this matter. Below is the aforementioned revised statue: LRS 32:296; Stopping, parking, or standing upon the highway shoulder; driving upon the highway shoulder A. No person shall stop, park, or leave standing any unattended vehicle on any state highway shoulder when such stopping or parking on the highway shoulder shall obstruct the flow of traffic or is a hazard to public safety, unless such stopping, parking, or standing is made necessary by an emergency, except: (1) In those areas designated as parking areas by the Department of Transportation and Development, or (2) By any public utility personnel or public utility equipment engaged in the operation of the utility business, public vehicles owned by public bodies which are engaged in the conduct of official business, or privately-owned vehicles which are engaged in services authorized by the local governing authority.
