| NEWS RELEASE LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DATE: March 7th, 2008 ****CORRECTED **** Fatal Hit and Run Crash in St. John Parish On Friday, March 7th, 2008 at 2:05 AM, Louisiana State Police, Troop B investigated a fatal hit and run crash on U.S, 61 (Airline Hwy) near LA 3217 in St. John the Baptist Parish. The crash involved a 1996 Chevrolet Prism driven by Mr. Richard Christoff (W/M, 58 yrs), of Reserve, LA, an unknown dark colored vehicle and a pedestrian. The Chevrolet was traveling southbound on U.S. 61 in the right lane at which time it struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian was walking southbound on U.S. 61 in the right lane of travel. The driver of the Chevrolet (Mr. Christoff) stated that he did not see the pedestrian walking in the right lane prior to his vehicle striking him. He further stated that he immediately pulled to the side of the roadway and called 911. Mr. Christoff further stated that while he was on the phone he observed a vehicle approaching the pedestrian who was now lying in the lane of travel. Mr. Christoff attempted to flag the oncoming vehicle away from the pedestrian, but the driver ignored his warnings, ran over the pedestrian and continued southbound on U.S. 61 without stopping. Mr. Christoff described the vehicle as an unknown small dark colored passenger vehicle. The pedestrian was identified as Mr. Enoch J. Falterman (W/M, 65 yrs) of Montz, LA. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Speed and driver impairment are not factors on the part of Mr. Christoff. No charges were filed against Mr. Christoff. It is unknown at this time if impairment is a factor on part of Mr. Falterman. (Results pending toxicology examination) No further information has been obtained at his time, pertaining to the unknown vehicle. Trooper Christopher LeDoux is continuing his investigation.
