Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: October 16, 2008 Suspect Arrested for the Theft of $200,000.00 of Equipment In July of 2008, the Louisiana State Police Region 1 detectives and detectives from the New Orleans Police Department began a joint investigation into the recovery of several pieces of stolen equipment. The investigation was initiated when Chisholm Trail Construction LLC and Jack Stuteville, both from Oklahoma reported that a large amount of heavy equipment and several trucks had been stolen from a construction site in New Orleans in July of 2007. Shortly after the investigation was initiated, detectives located and recovered a 1996 John Deere Excavator and a Hercules Lowboy trailer in Gretna. Through the course of the investigation investigators learned that Donald Swanzy, a worksite manager was responsible for the removal of the aforementioned equipment. It was at that time that detectives obtained four separate warrants for Mr. Swanzy arrest, each one for Unauthorized Use of a Movable. On October 10, 2008, Louisiana State Police Detectives located and arrested Swanzy at his residence in New Orleans. At the residence, detectives recovered a 1997 Ford F150 pick-up that Swanzy had reregistered to a company that he owned. After interviewing Mr. Swanzy, detectives were able to recover a 2005 John Deere Skidsteer, which was being stored in a warehouse in New Orleans, and a 2005 Dodge Quad Cab pick-up which had been sold by Swanzy to a third party in St. Bernard Parish. On October 15, 2008, detectives located a 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 in Jefferson Parish and a 2001 Mack Truck in Livingston Parish, which was in the process of being auctioned. The remaining piece of heavy equipment, 1996 Hyundai Excavator was sold to an out of state company and arrangements are being made for its recovery. The total value of the recovered equipment is approximately $200,000.00.
