TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE

For Immediate Release

Date: September 14, 2008
Louisiana State Police, Troop B Continuing Recovery Efforts

Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police, Troop B continue to assist local and parish officials with traffic management and community protection. Troopers have been working double shifts since Friday, August 29th, and are currently assisting the City of New Orleans Police Department with “Looting Patrols” in the 3rd and 7th districts. They are also working in conjunction with the National Guard and agents with the Louisiana Probation and Parole to provide security and traffic support as needed at the food stamp distribution sites at the New Orleans Convention Center and the Alario Center in Jefferson Parish. Due to the rising water around the I-10 and I-55 entrance and exit ramps, which has made these roadways impassable, Troop B is assisting the St. John the Baptist Sheriff's Office with situations that may require a police, fire or EMS response on either I-55 or I-10.

Road Closures:

1.) St. John the Baptist Parish: The I-55 entrance and exit ramp at U.S 51 in Laplace is still closed due to high water.
2.) Plaquemines Parish: (Westbank) LA 23 south of the Conoco-Philips Refinery in Alliance remains closed due to high water.
(Eastbank) LA 39 south of Braithwaite remains closed due to high water.
