Fatal Crash on U.S. 90 in St. Charles

On Thursday, August 28th, 2008 at 5:00 am, Louisiana State Police, Troop B investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on U.S. 90 near milepost 249, in St. Charles Parish. The crash involved a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Mr. Vincent J. Marie (W/M, 25 yrs), of Westwego and a 2008 Mack garbage truck driven by Chad K. Byrd (B/M, 40 yrs), of Kenner. The Chevrolet was traveling westbound on U.S. 90 in the left lane at which time it struck the raised median and swerved to the right. The driver of the Suburban then over corrected, crossing the westbound lanes and the median proceeding into the path of the Mack garbage truck traveling eastbound in the left lane of U.S. 90. The Mack garbage truck then struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet. After impact, Mr. Marie was ejected from his vehicle onto the roadway.
Mr. Marie suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the Mack garbage truck suffered moderate injuries and was transported to St. Charles Parish Hospital for treatment.
Driver impairment on the part of Mr. Byrd is not suspected.
Driver impairment on the part of Mr. Marie is unknown at this time. (Results pending a toxicology examination).
Speed is considered a factor in the crash.
Trooper Bourgeois is continuing his investigation.
