Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: July 15, 2008 Single Vehicle Crash Involving a Pedestrian On Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 05:45 AM, Louisiana State Police, Troop B investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on the U.S. 90-B (Service Rd) westbound near Ames Blvd, in Marrero. The crash involved a 2003 Ford F150 pick-up driven by Mr. Scott Cantrelle (W/M, 37 yrs), of Harvey, LA and a pedestrian. The Ford was exiting U.S. 90-B (high-rise) westbound on the Ames Blvd off ramp. As the Ford traveled off the Ames Blvd off ramp the pedestrian, Carl Florant (B/M, 40 yrs of Marrero) ran north into left lane of U.S. 90-B from the median. The driver of the Ford, Cantrelle who was operating his vehicle in the left lane had insufficient time to avoid striking the pedestrian and consequently struck him with the left front corner of the vehicle. Because of injuries sustained in the crash the pedestrian, Florant was pronounced dead on the scene. Driver impairment and speed are not suspected factors in the crash. Mr. Cantrelle was not cited in the crash. Senior Trooper John Neal is continuing his investigation.
