Three Vehicle Fatal Crash in Laplace

On May 4, 2008 at 11:46 AM, Louisiana State Police, Troop B investigated a three vehicle fatal crash on U.S. 61 (Airline Hwy) at Cambridge in Laplace. The crash involved a 2000 Lincoln Towncar driven by Louis J. Green Jr (B/M, 37yrs) of Norco, a 2002 Dodge Pick-up driven by Javier M. Rivera (O/M, 33 yrs) of Laplace and a 2000 Saturn SL driven by black male. The Lincoln was traveling northbound on U.S. 61 in the left lane at a high rate of speed at which time it struck the rear of the Dodge Pick-up, which was also traveling northbound on U.S 61 in the left lane. After impact, the Dodge was forced to the left and traveled across the southbound lanes of U.S. 61. The Dodge was immediately struck by the Saturn traveling southbound on U.S. 61 in the right lane. The Dodge then rolled over and began to rotate ejecting its front passenger (Manuel Rengal O/M,32 yrs) onto the roadway. After the initial impact, the Lincoln continued across the southbound lanes and came to rest in the Auto Zone parking lot.

As a result of the crash the front passenger of the Saturn, Taija Stokes (B/F, 19yrs) of Laplace, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Saturn, whose name is being withheld pending proper notification, was transported to River Parishes Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver and the passenger of the Dodge were transported to River Parishes Hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the Lincoln, Green was treated for his injuries and booked at the St. John Correctional Center with two counts of Negligent Homicide, two counts of Negligent Injuring and Reckless Operation.

Driver impairment is not a factor in the crash. The occupants of the Dodge or the Saturn did not wear Seatbelts.

Trooper T. Elliot is continuing his investigation.
