Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: June 7, 2008 Driver of the Dump Truck Involved in the Harvey Tunnel Crash Arrested On Saturday, June 7th, 2008 at 6:30 AM, Mr. Darrel Stipe was arrested by Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy Lawrence Matthews, of the Warrants and Attachment division, at 1601 U.S. 90-B in Harvey. The arrest was based on a warrant issued by the Louisiana State Police for Hit and Run, Unsecured load, Aggravated Obstruction of a Highway and 18 counts of Negligent Injury. Mr. Stipe was taken into custody without incident and booked at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. Witnesses of the crash identified Mr. Stipe as the driver of the dump truck, which lost a load of mud inside the Harvey Tunnel on Friday, May 30th, 2008. The mud left on the roadway caused a 23-vehicle chain reaction crash in the bottom of the tunnel. As a result of the crash, 18 people received minor to moderate injuries and were transported to surrounding medical facilities for attention. S&M Trucking in Bridge City owns the dump truck.
