Zachary Man Dies After Three Vehicle Crash In Pointe Coupee Parish

Livonia, LA Shortly after 1:00 pm on August 20, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a three vehicle fatality crash that occurred at the intersection of US 190 and LA 978 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash took the life of 24 year old Michael Wallis of Zachary, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 48 year old Oscar Davis of Rougon, LA was traveling eastbound on US 190 in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. Davis came to a stop at the intersection preparing to make a left turn onto LA 978. Wallis was traveling eastbound on US 190 in a 2008 Toyota Yaris behind Davis. As Wallis was slowing to a stop behind Davis, 32 year old Jordy Lanthier of Eunice, LA was traveling eastbound on US 190 behind Wallis in a 2014 Dodge Ram van. Lanthier failed to reduce his speed and struck Wallis vehicle in the rear. The impact caused Wallis vehicle to rotate clockwise and strike the rear of Davis vehicle.

Wallis was restrained but received fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroners Office. Davis and Lanthier were both restrained and were not injured in the crash. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from all drivers for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
