Marrero Resident Killed in Crash on LA 45

Troop B – Today, shortly after 1:50 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on LA 45 south near College Parkway. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Dodge Charger, operated by Preston Hardy (B/M, age 47) of Marrero, LA, was traveling south on LA 45 and, for unknown reasons, veered off the roadway to the left. The Charger re-entered and crossed the lanes of traffic, exiting the right side of the roadway and impacting a ditch and concrete culvert. The Charger then became airborne and traveled approximately 100 feet before coming to rest. Hardy was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Speed is suspected as a factor in the crash; possible impairment of the driver is unknown at this time, pending autopsy and toxicology results.

Troopers continue to see a lack of seat belt use as one of the primary causes of serious injuries and deaths in crashes on Louisiana highways across the state. Even in violent crashes, such as head-on collisions and multiple rollover crashes, seat belts are proven life-saving devices. The safest place for a person to be, in the event of a crash, is inside the vehicle. In order to ensure that you remain inside the vehicle, BUCKLE UP! Louisiana State Police will continue to work hard through education and enforcement initiatives to increase seat belt use throughout the state.

BUCKLE UP!!! SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES!!!
