Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: August 19, 2010 Fatal Crash Claims Life of Baton Rouge Resident Troop B – On Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at approximately 10:15 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on I-10 west at mile post 199.8 in St. John the Baptist Parish. Investigation revealed a 2002 Toyota Camry was traveling on I-10 west, and for unknown reasons, ran off the road to the right and struck several trees. Upon impact with the trees, the Camry caught on fire. The driver was identified as James Blender (W/M, age 58) of Baton Rouge, LA and was pronounced dead on the scene. There were no other passengers in the vehicle. At this time, the crash is still under investigation. It is unknown if speed was a factor and alcohol tests are pending the toxicology and autopsy.
