Fatal Crash on I-10 Claims the Life of an Illinois Man Troop B – Louisiana State Police, Troop B investigated a fatal crash in St. John the Baptist Parish on April 9, 2010 on I-10 east at mile post 211 shortly after 10:10 PM. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by Aeham H. Hamad (O/M, age 22) of Gretna, was traveling on I-10 east in the right lane at a high rate of speed and then moved into the left lane. A 1998 Ford Explorer, driven by Joel R. Redenius (W/M, age 39) of Rockford, Illinois, was traveling on I-10 east in the left lane at the posted speed limit. The Crown Victoria then struck the rear of the Explorer, causing Redenius to lose control of the Explorer. The Explorer rolled over several times before leaving the roadway and falling off the elevated portion of I-10 into a wooded area. Redenius was pronounced dead on the scene and Hamad was transported to Ochsner Hospital in Kenner, LA with moderate injuries. Speed is a factor in the crash. Blood was taken from Hamad and the toxicology results are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Trooper Journee is continuing the investigation and charges are pending.
