Former Police Officer Arrested for Falsifying Public Records

Troop B Louisiana State Police detectives arrested a former police officer for falsifying public records after he omitted pertinent information on a law enforcement job application. On Wednesday, May 5, 2010, State Police detectives obtained an arrest warrant in the 24th Judicial District (Jefferson Parish) for the arrest of Michael Liker (W/M, age 43) of Garyville, LA. According to the arrest warrant, State Police detectives were contacted by the Metropolitan Crime Commission in March 2009 regarding the Assistant Chief of the Sorrento Police Department, Michael Liker. The Commission offered information pertaining to Liker and his previous employment (1990-1992) as a deputy with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office where an internal investigation revealed that Liker had engaged in criminal activity. In 1992, Liker was arrested by the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office and his employment was terminated.

In January 2009, Liker applied for employment with the East Jefferson Levee District Police and intentionally omitted his previous criminal history. Liker was not hired by the East Jefferson Levee District Police. Louisiana State Police Detectives received this information and obtained an arrest warrant in Jefferson Parish charging Liker with filing false public records. Liker turned himself in to detectives on Friday, May 7, 2010 and was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.

NOTE: The Metropolitan Crime Commission is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating public corruption and enhancing the quality of life for Louisiana’s citizens.
