TROOP A NEWS RELEASE September 20, 2014 Two Killed after Driver Rear-Ends Tow Truck on US Hwy 190 Port Allen – Shortly before 1:30 am on September 20, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on US Hwy 190 west of LA Hwy 983 (Bueche Rd.) in West Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the lives of 31 year old Michael R. Fornea of Baton Rouge and his passenger, 27 year old Jesse L. Gaudin of Gonzales. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Fornea was driving a 2003 Acura TL eastbound on US Hwy 190. At the same time, 41 year old Donnie Snoke of Washington, LA was also traveling eastbound on US Hwy 190 in a 2006 Ford tow truck. As both vehicles were traveling eastbound in the right hand lane, Fornea’s Acura struck the rear of the tow truck driven by Snoke. Despite the fact that both Fornea and Gaudin (the front seat passenger in the Acura) were properly restrained at the time of the crash, they suffered fatal injuries. Snoke was properly restrained and was uninjured. Driver impairment is unknown on the part of Fornea; however, a toxicology sample was taken from him and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Impairment on the part of Snoke is not suspected. Excessive speed on the part of Fornea is considered to be a factor in this crash. Troopers wish to remind drivers that impaired driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same. Troopers will continue to enforce Louisiana’s DWI laws across the state and remain committed to a public education campaign to end impaired driving. Have a plan and designate a driver before you decide to operate a vehicle while impaired. Contact Information: | |||
