Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: October 24, 2010 Louisiana State Police Needs Community’s Assistance in Solving a Hit and Run Fatality Crash Troop B –On Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 9:41 PM, Troop B investigated a fatal hit and run crash that occurred on US 61 (Airline Hwy) at LA 3188 (Belle Terre Blvd) in Laplace. The crash involved a pedestrian, Patrick H. Toney (B/M, 59 yrs) of Laplace and the following vehicles: an unidentified make/model dark colored SUV, a Hyundai Elantra driven by Barbara A. Elliott (W/F, 58 yrs) of Laplace, a Nissan Altima driven by Arianne M. Smith (B/F, 23 yrs) of Laplace, and a Dodge Neon that was not fully identified. While walking north, the pedestrian was crossing the lanes of US 61south and entered the center turning lane between the northbound and southbound lanes. The pedestrian then stumbled back into the left lane at which time he was struck by an unknown dark colored SUV and the Dodge Neon. The pedestrian was then thrown into the left lane of US 61 north and struck by the Hyundai and the Nissan. The unknown dark colored SUV and the Dodge Neon fled south on US 61, without stopping or rendering aid. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene by St. John the Baptist Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is not a factor on the part of the drivers of the Hyundai and Nissan. Impairment is suspected on the part of the pedestrian. Toxicology results are pending.
