Fatal Mock Crash will Portray Consequences of Impaired Driving

Troop B - On Friday, October 22, 2010, at 10:30 AM, students from Jesuit High School will participate in a Mock Crash involving impaired driving. The event will take place at Jesuit High School located at 4133 Banks St., New Orleans, LA, 70119. The Mock Crash will be performed in front of juniors and seniors and an emphasis will be placed on the consequences of driving impaired. The students will be informed of various Louisiana laws and the importance of making good decisions. This event is taking place during the National Teen Driver Safety Week which is held annually to raise awareness and seek solutions to the unnecessary teen fatalities and injuries due to vehicle crashes each year on our roadways.

Students involved will act out a fatal crash scenario in front of their peers, allowing the students to see first-hand how impaired driving can quickly turn deadly, affecting everyone involved. Parents of the students will also be playing parts in this scenario. The Mock Crash will emphasize, not only the dangers and consequences of impaired driving, but also the usage of seat belts and the emotional suffering families endure when a fatal or serious injury crash occurs in reality.

Numerous state and local agencies will be on hand to participate and provide their expertise to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Interim LSU Public Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center, Louisiana State Police, New Orleans EMS, and the New Orleans Coroner’s Office will also participate in the scenario. They will also be available to answer all of the student’s questions at the conclusion of the event.

The education provided by the participating agencies is an effort to reduce the number of crashes that are caused by impaired driving and lack of seat belt use. Programs, such as the Mock Crash, teach our youth the importance of making sound decisions throughout the course of their lives.

**All media outlets are invited to attend this event. **
