TROOP A NEWS RELEASE September 21, 2014 Motorcyclist Killed on LA Hwy 19 in Zachary Zachary – Shortly before 5:45 pm on September 21, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash involving a motorcycle that occurred on LA Hwy 19 at Port Hudson-Pride Road in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 54 year old Alan D. Carlyle of Baker. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Carlyle was riding a 2014 Honda XR650L motorcycle southbound on LA Hwy 19. At the same time, 27 year old Lacey E. Roberts of Zachary was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla northbound on LA Hwy 19. Roberts attempted to make a left hand turn off of LA Hwy 19 to travel westbound on Port Hudson-Pride Rd. When Roberts turned left she pulled into the path of the Honda motorcycle ridden by Carlyle. As a result the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Corolla. Carlyle suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge where he succumbed to injuries received. Roberts was properly restrained as was a 2 year old passenger in her rear seat. Both were uninjured. Driver impairment is not suspected on the part of either driver, and Carlyle wore a safety helmet. This crash remains under investigation, and charges may be pending. Troopers urge motorcyclists of all ages and experience levels to take extra precautions while riding and ensure that they are properly prepared and trained for a variety of riding conditions. Through participation in certified training programs, riders are educated on safe riding practices such as being visible, dressing for safety, applying effective riding strategies, and knowing the capabilities and limitations of their motorcycle. Motorcyclists are taught how to apply these safety practices to not only avoid being involved in a crash but to greatly reduce the chance of injury should a crash occur.
