Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: January 17, 2010 One Vehicle Fatality in St. John Parish Troop B – On January 16, 2010 at approximately 6:40PM, Troop B investigated a one car fatality crash in St. John Parish on LA 53 south at mile post 1.5. Investigation showed a 2004 GMC Envoy, driven by Albert Smith III (B/M, age 44) of St. James, was traveling on LA 53 south at a high rate of speed and for unknown reasons the Envoy veered off the road to the right. The Envoy then struck a brick wall at 727 LA 53, rolled over and came to rest on its roof. Smith was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead on the scene. Speed and alcohol are suspected to be factors of the crash and toxicology results are pending.
