Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: December 5, 2009 Fatal Crash on North Causeway Boulevard Claims One Life Troop B – On December 4, 2009, at approximately 12:38 PM, Louisiana State Police responded to a vehicle crash with injury on North Causeway Boulevard at Bore Street. Troopers learned through investigation that a 2005 Ford Focus, driven by Mrs. Elsie Lester of Metairie (W/F, age 83), was traveling west on Bore Street and failed to yield as she began crossing the northbound lanes of North Causeway Boulevard. A 2005 Ford E-350 van, driven by Mr. Larry M. Matherne of Marrero (W/M, age 27), was traveling north on North Causeway Boulevard in the left lane and struck the Ford Focus on the driver’s side as it crossed the left lane. After the crash, Mrs. Lester was transported to University Hospital in critical condition. On Saturday, December 05, 2009, at approximately 4:45 AM, Mrs. Lester succumbed to her injuries and died at University Hospital. Speed and/or impairment are not suspected to be factors of the crash.
