Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: November 27, 2009 Fatal Crash on I-10 Claims the Life of a Young Female Troop B – On November 27, 2009, at approximately 2:55 AM Troopers from the Louisiana State Police-Troop B began investigating a fatality crash on I-10 east at the Causeway Blvd. south exit ramp. Troopers learned that a 2001 Toyota Sequoia was traveling on I-10 east and began to exit the interstate at Causeway Blvd. south. For unknown reasons, the Toyota traveled off the road to the left as it rounded the curve. The Toyota then rolled over several times and the driver, identified as Laura S. Espinoza-Paz (Hispanic female, 21 yoa) of Gretna, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased on the scene. Espinoza-Paz was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. Preliminary investigation indicates that the passenger, Jose R. Turcius (Hispanic male, 27 yoa), was wearing his seatbelt. Turcius was able to crawl out of the vehicle and suffered only minor injuries. Speed is believed to be a factor in this crash and alcohol tests are pending. Trooper B.
