| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP B- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: January 18, 2010 Un-Restrained Driver Loses Life in Fatal Crash Troop B – On Sunday, January 17, 2010 at approximately 6:21 PM, Troopers investigated a one car fatal crash on LA 23 (Belle Chase Hwy.) south near mile post 13 in Plaquemines Parish. A 2007 Nissan Titan, driven by Hong Hean (age 41) of Buras, LA, was traveling south on LA 23 at a high rate of speed. The Titan veered off the road to the right, traveled a short distance and Hean overcorrected the Titan and re-entered LA 23. The Titan then struck the median curb and began to flip several times. Hean was not wearing a seatbelt and he was ejected from the vehicle. Hean was transported to University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Speed is a factor in the crash investigation and driver impairment results are pending the toxicology report. This is the seventh fatal crash Troop B has investigated since the beginning of the new year. Troopers continue to see serious injuries and deaths across the state resulting from ejections during crashes. Statistics show that the safest place to be during a vehicle crash is INSIDE the vehicle. The ONLY way to ensure that you remain inside the vehicle is to be properly restrained. Louisiana law requires all occupants to be restrained. Please buckle up, SEATBELTS SAVE LIVES!
