One Man is Dead After Fatal Crash in St. Charles Parish

Troop B – On Monday, February 15, 2010, at approximately 11:10 PM, Louisiana State Police, Troop B was notified of a crash involving a serious injury on LA 18 east near Keller Street in Hahnville. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 Ford F-150, driven by Irving C. Aucoin (W/M, age 46) of Hahnville, was traveling east on LA 18 and Aucoin was unable to negotiate a curve in the road. The F-150 ran off the road to the left and overturned. Aucoin was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to St. Charles General Hospital where he later died from his injuries sustained in the crash. There were no passengers in the F-150. Alcohol impairment and excessive speed are believed to be factors in the crash. Toxicology results are pending the autopsy report.

Louisiana law requires ALL occupants in the vehicle to be buckled up. The safest place to be, in the event of a crash, is INSIDE the vehicle. Louisiana State Police continue to see fatal crashes that are the result of people not wearing their seatbelts. Please ensure that all occupants are properly restrained. Also, driving under the influence of alcohol and / or drugs is against the law. Impaired driving will not be tolerated and you WILL go to jail. Drive sober and remember that “buzzed” driving is also impaired driving.
