TROOP A NEWS RELEASE

October 16, 2014
Zachary Woman Killed in Two Vehicle East Baton Rouge Parish Crash

Zachary Shortly after 4:00 pm on October 16, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle injury crash that occurred on LA Hwy 64 (Greenwell Springs–Port Hudson Rd.) at Joor Rd. in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 83 year old Cherry B. Boudreaux of Zachary.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Boudreaux was driving a 2007 Lincoln MKZ northbound on Joor Rd. At the same time, 51 year old Brian Gaultier of Zachary was driving a 1993 Dodge pickup eastbound on LA Hwy 64. After coming to a stop at the stop sign of Joor Rd. and LA Hwy 64, Boudreaux pulled her vehicle onto LA Hwy 64 in an attempt to travel west. Upon doing so, she pulled into the path of Gaultier’s Dodge, causing the Dodge to strike the Lincoln. As a result both vehicles left the roadway and entered into a ditch, and the Lincoln struck a tree.

Boudreaux sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. She was transported from the scene to Lane Memorial Hospital in Zachary, and was later transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Later that evening while at OLOL Boudreaux succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. Driver impairment is not suspected on the part of either driver, and both were properly restrained. Gaultier suffered minor to moderate injuries as a result of the crash and was also transported to Lane Memorial.

Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving at all times. Never drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued, and always remain buckled up regardless of seating position. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road. Always obey all traffic control devices and be aware of your surroundings at all times.
